All downhill from here?

It hurts that the modern greats of the game have left Sri Lankan cricket. It’s not surprising that the transitioning from a team of such experience and class would take time. Patience is a virtue, right? Wait. Didn’t the “greats” abandon ship back in 2015 or so? What in the world have we got to in the past half a decade?

It hurts that the cricketing youth, the cricketing future, the “to-be” legends of Sri Lankan cricket are not doing what they are supposed to be doing. On the field, yes, there might be bad days for everybody. But off it? The melodramas of the so-called self-obsessed members of the national cricket team have made the Lankan cricket arena lamer than a telenovela. It has gotten to a point where Sana’s lofted cover drives and Sanga’s elegant flick of the pads have been replaced by a bad dream of cricketers being drunkards, degenerates or worse and overall no-gos as role models.

It hurts that being just enthusiasts of the great game, it seems as if there’s nothing we mortals can do about the sinking ship which is Sri Lankan cricket.

All downhill from here? Let's hope not.
